The Underside of Silver (2026) The Underside of Silver explores the fractured nature of identity through the symbolism of the mirror and its hidden reflective layer. The silver coating on the back of a mirror is what allows us to see ourselves, yet it remains invisible to the observer. This concealed surface becomes a metaphor for the parts of ourselves that struggle with recognition, belonging, and the feeling of being worthy of reflection. Against a vivid yellow background, fragmented human figures emerge and dissolve, their identities entangled in overlapping lines and distorted forms. A partially detached wooden frame attempts to contain the composition, while chains and butcher’s hooks extend beyond the canvas, giving the painting a physical presence that defies its traditional boundaries. The work confronts the instability of self-perception, exposing the tension between the image we construct of ourselves and the fragments that refuse to fit within it.
