Karmense
Karmense (Carmen Sevilla Espinosa), was born in Tomelloso, a city in La Mancha, where she spent her childhood and adolescence until she moved to Cuenca to study Fine Arts at the University of Castilla La Mancha.
She is currently a teacher specialized in Information and Technology at Antonio López Higher School of Art and Design in Tomelloso, combining her educational work with her artistic activity.
She has been trained in different workshops dedicated to Graphic Work, such as Casa Falconieri (Sardinia), Antonio Miró Foundation (Palma de Mallorca), CIEC Foundation (Betanzos Contemporary Printing International Center). She has also been trained at Antonio Saura Engraving Workshop of the Goya-Fuendetodos Foundation, at El Visor School of Art (Barcelona) and at La Granja Printmaking Workshop (Granada), delving, in all of them, into non-toxic engraving techniques with the support of renowned plastic artists devoted to the world of Engraving and Printing.
Her work has been exhibited at San Clemente Cultural Center, in Toledo, at Antonio López Higher School of Art and Design in Tomelloso, and in the travelling exhibition of the VI Amalia Avia Women in Art Exhibition organized by the Women's Institute of Castille-La Mancha, as well as at the XVIII El Dorado Space-Art Meeting of Artists, organized by the Amelia Moreno Foundation and in the travelling exhibition of the I and II International Engraving Competitions of Castilla-La Mancha in 2022 and 2023, respectively.
In addition, she has participated with her engravings in the publishing of the illustrated poetry book “La Naranja Entera” by Editorial Amargord.
She is a visual artist in whom, if we stop to interpret her work, we discover a symbiosis between the traditional language of engraving and the experimental techniques and new technologies with which she captures her inner world and personal experiences.
