Margret Kube

*Born in Bernbruch/Kamenz (Upper Lusatia); has lived and worked in Munich since 1984; 1970–1972: studied painting and graphic arts under Prof. Konrad Homberg at Ernst Moritz Arndt University of Greifswald; 1970–1974: Pharmacy at Ernst Moritz Arndt University of Greifswald; graduated with a degree in pharmacy; 2004–2014: Studied painting under Stephan Fritsch in Munich and Salzburg; freelance artist since 2014. As an artist with a background in the natural sciences, I enjoy experimenting. I do not tell stories in an illustrative way, but rather open up pictorial spaces. I also place a strong emphasis on exploring the intersections between words and images—or word-image interplay—as well as delving into political and autobiographical themes. I realize my ideas through painting using various lines, and sometimes also through texts, small objects, and video works. Artistic collaboration with colleagues from all disciplines is very important to me; as such, I have curated various exhibitions and projects, including at Hohenkammer Palace and Nymphenburg Palace.
