Power of the Volta reflects on the presence, strength and significance of the Volta River and the Akosombo Dam within Ghana’s landscape and national story. The work is informed by my personal connection to Akosombo, where the dam formed part of the environment I knew while growing up.

The painting explores more than the visible relationship between water, land and structure. It considers the deeper connections between memory, development, energy, community and transformation. The Volta becomes both a physical force and a symbol of progress, change and collective experience.

Connection to Beyond the Frame

This work relates closely to the theme of Beyond the Frame because it invites the viewer to look beyond the landscape itself and consider the human history and lived experiences connected to it. Beneath the visible image are memories of place, questions of national development and the continuing relationship between people, power and the natural environment. Acrylic on Canvas 72 x 56 cm
