Year:
I painted "Who Invited the Third Bottle of Wine" to capture the beautiful, messy energy of getting together with the people I love. The piece is deeply influenced by those spontaneous gatherings that happen without a plan. You start with a quiet evening, but the laughter stretches out, the hours blur, and suddenly someone uncorks that third, indulgent bottle of wine. Visually, I channelled this feeling through abstract, elongated figures that crowd together against a dark backdrop, mimicking a dimly lit room humming with conversation. The warm tones of amber, cream, and rich ochres reflect the comfort and intimacy of close friendship. I used chaotic patterns, heavy textures, and intersecting lines to mirror the overlapping voices, shared stories, and beautiful unravelling of a night that no one wants to end.
