THE CORE OF THE MATTER has always been rooted in my interest in the way humanity searches for answers about its own origins. This work emerged from that search and from the desire to confront what we believe, what has been passed down to us and what we continue to question.

The work draws on recognisable references such as Adam and Eve, the snake and the apple, but it does not seek to illustrate the biblical narrative. I am more interested in what these images represent: innocence, temptation, knowledge, doubt and the change that takes place when we stop simply accepting what is given to us as truth.

In the upper right corner, figures referring to Adam and Eve appear. Nearby, a masked female figure creates a presence of mystery and uncertainty. At the centre of the composition, a female figure appears exposed among different bodies, animals and hybrid forms that intersect, observe and seem to interact with one another.

The multiplicity of figures does not seek to tell a linear story. Instead, it represents a humanity made of differences, contradictions, beliefs and doubts. The characters occupy and compete for the same space, creating a dense and unsettling composition in which the eye constantly discovers new elements.

The painting is built around the strong presence of primary colours: red, blue and yellow, explored through contrasts, mixtures and overlapping layers. Colour, gesture and material contribute to the tension and movement that run throughout the work.

THE CORE OF THE MATTER does not seek to answer where we come from. It seeks to place that question before us once again. Because perhaps the true core of the matter lies not only in the origin we seek, but in our need to find an answer.
