Evelyn Cohen
Evelyn Cohen was born and raised in Mexico City, where she continues to live and work. She holds a degree in International Relations from Universidad Iberoamericana, a Master’s in Jewish Studies and Didactics from Universidad Hebraica, and further academic training in the sociology of art and art history.
A self-taught painter and draftswoman since childhood, Cohen later deepened her practice under the guidance of distinguished mentors: drawing and painting with Maestro Raúl Díaz; painting and technique with Maestro José Luis Islas; mixed media with Maestra Stella Koloffon; photography with Maestro Saúl Serrano, including photographic intervention with Aidé Maya; and drawing with Maestro Gilberto Aceves Navarro.
This dual formation — academic rigor paired with hands-on artistic mentorship — shapes a body of work that moves fluidly between disciplines and ideas. Her practice is animated by an enduring inquiry into identity, encounter, and otherness: the self, the other, and the other within us. Drawing on the philosophies of Levinas and Buber, her paintings explore the fragmented mirror of human experience, seeking to recover the magical and the childlike through color that vibrates rather than merely represents.
Cohen works independently, without gallery representation, building direct relationships with collectors, curators, and institutions across Mexico and abroad.
