Michalis Kitsis
Michalis Kitsis, working under the name HelmetedArt, is a Greek-Cypriot visual artist based in Linköping, Sweden. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and his work has been exhibited and collected internationally.
Moving through psychological, theatrical and mythological spaces, Kitsis explores identity, the roles we inhabit, and the inner states that often remain hidden beneath the surface. Working primarily with acrylic and oil, he combines saturated colour, atmospheric light and figurative imagery to create emotionally charged environments where reality and the subconscious begin to overlap.
At the centre of his ongoing series, Behind the Mirror, is a recurring vintage diving helmet. Concealing the face and removing a fixed identity, the helmet functions as both a mask and a vessel , a way of exploring the roles and façades we create to navigate life and breathe under pressure. By leaving his figures psychologically open rather than defining who they are, Kitsis invites viewers to recognise something of themselves within the work and form their own interpretations and stories.
