Mario Devcic
A sculptor born and raised in Croatia found his refuge and means of expression in sculpture during the turbulent times of the Balkan conflicts. His works, a sanctuary from the stark realities and consequences of war, meld primordial elements like wood and clay with modern materials such as metal and plastic, capturing raw and fundamental impulses.
This unique fusion of traditional and contemporary mediums brought his sculptures to the attention of the global art scene, leading to exhibitions in prestigious venues, including the Louvre in Paris—where his art was showcased twice—the Venice Biennale, and the Florence Biennale.
His artistic contributions have been recognized with several accolades, underscoring his ingenuity and impact on the art world. Notable among these honors are the Michelangelo Prize, awarded for artistic merit, the "Genius of Italy" recognition in Rome, and the Leonardo da Vinci Prize in Milan, Italy. These awards celebrate his ability to bridge the gap between ancient craftsmanship and modern artistic expression, turning the intensity of human emotion and historical upheaval into compelling sculptural forms.
