Pamela Reading Riddoch
Born in Hampshire, educated in Scotland, and now residing in Sheffield, this Londoner has pursued a diverse and accomplished career in the arts. Graduating with a degree in fine arts from St Martins School of Art in London, she has imparted her knowledge and passion for art in various educational settings including secondary schools, adult education programs, and polytechnics. Her skills extended into the realm of graphic design and visualization, contributing significantly to an advertising agency.
Achieving recognition for her artistic talents, she was a prize winner in the Sheffield University 2005 Centenary Competition, organized by Sheffield University Fine Art Society, and secured the first prize in the abstract section of the 2005 Art in the Gardens Exhibition. Her commitment to her craft is evident through regular exhibitions in both Sheffield and London, with her works also reaching international audiences in private collections across North America, France, and Italy. Open to commissions, especially in portraiture, she invites those interested in commissioning a painting to reach out.
In the spring of 2015, she hosted her first retrospective show, "From This…To This," at The Circle in Sheffield, which was met with both commercial success and positive feedback from visitors. Further expanding her international presence, she participated in a mixed show in Tuscany in the summer of 2017, showcasing works inspired by visits to Italy.
Her artistic journey began under the influence of post-impressionism, fauvism, and the Japanese art of Hokusai and Utamara, evolving progressively towards abstract representations of landscapes and architecture. Fascinated by the interplay of light upon water and driven by a passion for color and design, she continually explores new ways of expressing these elements in her work. Working with a variety of mediums including oils, pastels, acrylic, and gouache, often combining two or more to achieve her desired effect, she remains dedicated to pushing the boundaries of her artistic expression.
